Article: What Australian Consumer Law Means for You

What Australian Consumer Law Means for You
Summary: When you buy something from an Australian business — whether it’s physical gear or a digital file — you are automatically protected under Australian Consumer Law (ACL).
These rights cannot be removed by disclaimers, terms and conditions, or “no refund” statements. They exist by law.
Here’s what that means when you purchase from Iron Outback.
Your Consumer Guarantees
Under ACL, all products sold in Australia must:
-
Be of acceptable quality
-
Match their description
-
Be fit for their intended purpose
This applies to both physical products and digital goods, including CAD files and downloadable plans.
If a product does not meet these guarantees, you are entitled to a repair, replacement, or refund, depending on the nature of the issue.
Digital Files Are Still Covered
Digital products are not excluded from consumer law.
If a file you purchase:
-
Does not open
-
Is corrupted
-
Is missing essential content
-
Is significantly different from what was described
You are entitled to a remedy under ACL.
At Iron Outback, if this happens, we will either correct the issue or provide a refund where required by law.
Change of Mind vs Faulty Products
Australian Consumer Law does not require businesses to offer refunds for change-of-mind purchases.
However, if a product is faulty, not as described, or unfit for purpose, your rights cannot be refused, even if the item is digital.
We clearly separate these two situations, so expectations are fair for everyone.
We Do Not Exclude Your Rights
No business is allowed to remove or override consumer guarantees.
That means:
-
“No refunds under any circumstances” is not lawful
-
Disclaimers do not remove your legal protections
-
Your rights exist whether or not they are written in our policies
We choose to be transparent about this because we want customers to feel confident buying from us.
